Clinical significance of ventricular tachycardia (3 beats or longer) detected during ambulatory monitoring after myocardial infarction.

چکیده
Six-hour ECG recordings were performed every four months during follow-up periods (4-48 months) in 915 patients less than 66 years of age who survived the hospital phase of myocardial infarction. One hundred ninety-nine episodes of ventricular tachycardia (VT) were identified in 66 patients. Most patients (74%) had only one episode of VT. In 47% of the patients, the longest run of VT consisted of three ventricular premature beats in a row. A double set of control patients (N = 132) was assembled by matching each VT patient according to sex, admission date and VT recording date. The VT and control patients were similar in most clinical characteristics. However, VT patients had more severe cardiac disease (P < 0.05) and more evidence of ventricular irritability (P < 0.01) than their

Transient myocardial ischaemia after acute myocardial infarction does not induce ventricular arrhythmias.
OBJECTIVE To see whether transient myocardial ischaemia on ambulatory monitoring after myocardial infarction is associated with ventricular arrhythmias. DESIGN A prospective study. SETTING The coronary care unit, general medical wards, and cardiorespiratory department of a major teaching hospital. PATIENTS 203 consecutive patients without specific exclusion criteria admitted with acute my...
متن کاملIdioventricular Rhythm in Acute Myocardial Infarction
An ectopic ventricular rhythm (IVR) with a rate of 60 to 100/min was detected in 36 of 100 consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction by constant monitoring of the electrocardiogram. This mechanism was not apparent clinically and was usually transient, lasting 4 to 30 beats. It was frequently associated with inferior myocardial infarction and usually occurred during sinus bradycardia...
متن کاملVentricular Arrhythmias during Exercise
The occurrence of ventricular arrhythniias during exercise testing, jogging, and sedentary life with and without preceding exercise was studied with the aid of ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring in healthy physically active men, healthy sedentary men, and men with previous myocardial infarction (15 men in each group). Ventricular premature beats of the same grade were found during exerc...
متن کاملFailure of ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring to predict results of programmed electrical stimulation. Studies in patients with clinical ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
To test for an association between the results of ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring (AEM) and programmed electrical stimulation (PES), or whether other factors better predict the results of PES, 57 patients (36 male and 21 female patients) presenting with either ventricular fibrillation (49 percent; 28/57) or sustained ventricular tachycardia (51 percent; 29/57) were studied. Each pati...
متن کاملMechanisms of bradycardia-induced ventricular arrhythmias in myocardial ischemia and infarction.
Experimental and clinical cases have been described in which bradycardia, i.e., heart rates below 60 beats/min or slowing of the heart rate, resulted in lethal ventricular arrhythmias during various stages of myocardial ischemia and infarction. The present study was designed to determine the relationship of lethal ventricular arrhythmias and slow heart rates. In 18 dogs anesthetized with sodium...
